Halloween Popcorn Treat

Halloween Popcorn:

• 2 standard size bags microwave popcorn, popped (butter flavored)
• 1 package Wilton Orange Candy Melts
• 10 Oreos, crushed
• sprinkles

1. Place popped popcorn into a large bowl.
2. Melt candy melts according to package directions, then pour over popcorn using a rubber spatula to coat.
3. Crumble Oreos over top of popcorn and sprinkle with tons of festive sprinkles. (Optional: Add candy corn, pretzels, M&Ms)
4. Break into pieces, and store in air tight container or wrap in cellophane.
5. Serve in Halloween themed baking cups and ENJOY!

5 Tips for Creating the most Spook-tacular Halloween Party EVER!

Halloween is one of our all-time favorite holidays at Eddy Street Vintage Market and we take decorating very seriously! There are some basic elements we include that make it a SPOOK-TACULAR event each year. Here is our guide for you:

1. Set the Tone of the Party

Pandora radio has a "Halloween Party" station that is sure to make all of the ghosts and goblins tap a toe! Make sure to start the radio station before the party. Hint: If you hear a song you like, click the thumbs up button and Pandora will begin to cater their music selections towards songs you have liked. 

2. Tastes Soo Good it's Scary

There are a ton of great Halloween themed snacks out there that range in difficulty. Witches' Brooms are super easy and make all the witches go "Awwww". It's simple, take a Reese's peanut butter cup and flip it upside down and then put a pretzel stick in the center of the peanut butter cup and HOCUS POCUS  you have a cute little witch's broom.  Then you have Dracula Dentures, Monster Eyeballs and a Popcorn mix that you can't stay away from. 3. Gather Your Friends and Set the Scene

It's tradition to watch Hocus Pocus during the Halloween season. I remember watching it when I was little with my Grandma Betty and thinking it was such a scary movie. Needless to say, I don't think it's nearly as frightful anymore instead it's festive. Some of the other great Halloween movies for all ages include: The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, Harry Potter, and Young Frankenstein. Plus, what's more fun than getting together and watching a movie. ANNNNNND.... You could make the delicious popcorn mentioned above. 

4. Set a Killer Table

For Halloween, imperfect is perfect! Grab a candleabra and add some crooked candles...Get the cobwebs and spiders out to0! Need a festive runner? Grab some spooky fabric and run it along the center of the table. 

5. Always Add an Element of Surprise

It's a Halloween party after all so it's important to keep people on their toes and make it a little spooky! Add motion activated decor so that when your guests enter the room it automatically goes off without you having to lift a finger. Shopping tip: Target, CVS and Walgreens had a lot of great animated decor this year.

October's Signature Snack: Candy Corn Hugs

Ingredients: 

-1 bag of Brach's Candy Corn

-1 bag Hershey's Hugs

-1 bag Snyder's Butter Snap pretzels

Instructions:

•Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. 

•Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper (not foil)

•Line up rows of pretzels and place an unwrapped Hershey Hug on each pretzel.

•Place in the oven for 2 minutes or until chocolate is shiny then remove from the oven.

•Quickly place Candy Corn onto each melted chocolate. 

•Allow to cool on the counter or on the fridge.

•ENJOY  

August's Signature Snack

Chex Scotcharoos: Did you get to try our signature snack last month?? If not, it's probably because I ate a hundred of them and we ran out!! We want to share the recipe with you since it received the Eddy Street stamp of approval and is a total crowd pleaser. HINT: You might want to make two batches because these go fast! 

Ingredients 

• 6 cups Chex cereal
• 1 cup light corn syrup
• 1 cup sugar
• 1½ cups peanut butter
• 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips
• 2 cups butterscotch chips
• ½ cup peanut butter
• 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

1. Butter a large bowl, and measure out 6 cups of Chex cereal. Set aside. Butter a 9x13 dish, OR line a baking sheet with wax paper if you would like freeform scotcharoo's like the ones I made that are pictured.
2. In a small saucepan, combine the corn syrup and sugar over medium heat. Once boiling, immediately remove from heat and stir in 1½ cups of peanut butter. Pour over cereal and fold together. Pour cereal into the 9x13 dish, or use a large cookie scoop to drop cereal onto wax paper, and use your hands to press together and form them.
3. Using a microwave safe dish or a double boiler, melt together chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, ½ cup of peanut butter and vanilla. If microwaving, heat in 10 second intervals, stirring in between to prevent the chocolate from burning.
4. Once smooth, pour over cereal, or scoop onto the piles you have created.
5. Allow to cool completely at room temperature.

Gearing up for Artisans & Antiques!

What if I told you about this quaint little town nestled in a valley at the foot of a beautiful mountain range? You would want to  go visit, right?

What if I told you that this little town comes alive with the energy of the townspeople and visitors that frequent the local shops and eateries? You would want to go visit, right? 

Well, that quaint little town is OUR town! Gardnerville, Nevada has so much to offer! Our Main Street Gardnerville District has a number of shops and eateries all within walking distance from Eddy Street Vintage Market's front door. I wanted to use my shop to help bring awareness about this great district where we are located. Our First Annual Artisans & Antiques show was a way for us to do just that!

We wanted to showcase each of the businesses within walking distance, so we created the "Shop Local" Compass. It was a matter of breaking out the paint and applying it to the parking lot! Now you know exactly which direction to head after you've finished your shopping at Eddy Street! It's so colorful, you can't miss it!

Additionally, I am so inspired by the number of talented people in our community that I wanted to help bring awareness to what each of them is creating! I am beyond thrilled with our vendor lineup for this show. The talent is unbelievable. We have chalk painted furniture, custom jewelry, handmade wine barrel gifts and home decor, antiques, handpainted glassware, beautiful oil-painted artwork, portrait photography and even LIVE MUSIC! For more detailed biographies on each of our vendors, head on over to the Artisans & Antiques 2015 show page on our Main Menu. 

Of course, I'm partial to the venue because I love my shop but we wanted to make it extra special so we have some fun things in store but I am really excited about the market lighting we've woven through our apple trees. It adds the perfect amount of sparkle!
